Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"This Perak gem specializes in authentic Malay cuisine, preserving traditional flavors that are increasingly hard to find (e.g. gulai kawah). It is easily one of the most welcoming (and delicious) Malay dining experiences I have had. Plus the price was very reasonable too! Lastly, it is also worth mentioning that the service was fast, there were ample sitting area and parking spaces. So, if you are passing through the state, it is a destination that justifies the detour for the authenticity alone."
"Datang on a weekday waktu makan tengahhari dan as expected for a well known kedai makan, parking was full and the place was bustling. The line however moved fast and the dishes were stocked rather quick. The place is large so you shouldn't worry about getting a table to dine. I got sotong bakar, kerabu mangga, nasi buluh and ayam sambal hijau with and iced tea if I'm not mistaken and everything cost me around RM35 which I think was fairly priced. Sotong however agak keras and the sambal was on a sweeter side. Ayam sambal hijau was good and so did the kerabu mangga. All in all, a good place to have a bite if you don't mind the busyness."
"Do come to Nasi Buluh Sungai Klah on a weekday, and honestly, it was a good choice. The whole idea of rice cooked in bamboo is quite special – the nasi comes wrapped in daun lirik, soft and fluffy with just a hint of aroma from the bamboo. It pairs really well with the wide spread of lauk they have. I tried a mix of ayam kampung goreng, ikan bakar, and some masak lemak, and everything was tasty and fresh. There are also plenty of ulam and sambal to complete the meal, so it really feels like proper kampung food. Since it wasn’t the weekend and around 11am, the crowd was a lot more manageable. I didn’t have to fight for parking or rush for a table, and the queue to pick dishes was smooth. The place itself is spacious and comfortable, with clean facilities and even a surau nearby, which is convenient. What I liked most was the relaxed vibe on a weekday – you can actually sit and enjoy the food without feeling rushed. The only thing is, the bamboo flavor in the rice is quite mild, but the overall experience makes up for it. Definitely a nice stop if you’re passing through Sungkai. My unease experienced was there lots of flies. That it. Rest was really good"
"Highly recommended. Total spent for 7 people was around RM 200+. Ikan bakar / nasi campur style restaurant that serves their signature rice wrapped in a leaf and steamed in bamboo holders. Food / Drinks - Station style (take food/drinks from each station and pay at the end of the line, for each station. No lump sum payments) - Lots of options, and I mean a lot - Most of them was really good, too many to even list here, but standout was Kerabu Selom, Ayam Bunian (kicap style sauce), Ikan Masak Tempoyak, Air Asam, Daging Dendeng, Daging Kerutuk, Ikan Bakar - You can ask them to heat up your food (no microwave, just stove tops) Place/Vibes - Parking is a bit difficult due to limited space. - Roadside parking is possible but a bit dangerous so be careful (main road) - They have toilets, surau, and handwashing area - Can get a bit hot during summer periods. Service - No issues whatsoever. - Servers were prompt, polite and easy to deal with - Cleanup was fast, tables were there as it was after peak hours. Overall Experience - Was okay for several families. - A bit pricey but I think it's worth it (nak murah masak sendiri lah) - People shouldn't complain as the price is shown on all menu items (if you think it's expensive, then don't take it) - Will visit again given the chance."
"First time visit this restaurant on our way home from Teluk Intan Hospital. It's quite near to Sungkai Toll Plaza. It's a big place but parking is challenging. We came here during weekday in the late afternoon. All dishes are ready-served on a plate. You can just pick up which one you prefer, but do extra careful and check if any flies on the plate. . Honestly, food taste is okay for me but I'm not quite like the environment and the service here."
"Pergi Nasi Bamboo Sungai Klah recently and was quite impressed by the overall setup. Macam-macam authentic kampung dishes available, with different sections such as bakar-bakar, desserts, and main dishes, which makes the whole dining experience very organised and efficient. Despite the crowd, the management flow was smooth and the waiting time was low. The variety is honestly the highlight — dishes like kerabu kacang botol, kerabu daun selom, fish eggs, and many more traditional kampung-style options. Everything is clearly labelled with both the food name and price, which makes it very easy to control your budget and choose what you like without guessing. Prices are fair and not overly expensive considering the selection. We came around 2.30pm, so most of the desserts were already sold out. However, their durian ice cream was a win — very creamy and worth trying if available. For Muslim, ada surau juga dekat kedai ni for solat Cuma parking a bit restraint sebab a lot of visitor. Kalau ada orang tua or ibu mengandung, better drop off di depan kedai dulu dan cari parking. Jangan lupa find table first before ambil dan bayar lauk. Side note: The system of labelled plates and pricing really helps with efficiency and makes ordering very convenient, especially for big groups."
"Tried Nasi Bamboo Sungai Klah and it was really good! The food has a unique taste with the bamboo aroma, making it different from the usual nasi campur. Dishes were flavorful and well-cooked, especially the lauk-pauk — very satisfying. Recommended dishes: Daging salai masak lemak, petai bakar/rebus, sup daging, kerang rebus, kerabu sayur. The place is simple and kampung-style, but clean and comfortable. Service was quite fast and friendly, even during busy hours. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re around Sungai Klah or after visiting the hot springs. Will come again!"
"The Ultimate Road Trip Pit-Stop: Nasi Bamboo Sungai Klah! If you haven’t pulled over in Sungkai for this, are you even doing a Malaysian road trip right? Nasi Bamboo Sungai Klah is a total mood and a feast for the soul. The Highlights: The Rice: Steamed in bamboo with lerek leaves. It’s fragrant, fluffy, and hits different. The Goods: Their Gulai Kawah is liquid gold, and the Ayam Penyet is perfectly crispy. The Vibe: Authentic kampung feels with a massive spread of traditional dishes that taste like home. Love the grilled fish and daging masak lemak cili padi The Kicker: Don’t skip their sambals—they’re spicy, tangy, and addictive!"
